Students across Bedford Borough received their A Level results on Thursday, and there were celebrations as the proportion of entrants achieving at least one A* or A grades rose once again, to nearly one in two. The provisional figures, based on returns from eight upper schools, show that 45.9% of students received at least one top grade, up from 42.3% in 2015. This increase was achieved by students in spite the proportion of top grades nationally decreasing slightly.

The proportion of Bedford Borough students achieving one or more A* - E grades also rose, to 99.3%.

Commenting, Mayor Dave Hodgson said: "My congratulations to students across the Borough for all their work in achieving their A Levels. Well done, too, to all of the parents, carers, teachers and staff who have supported students in their efforts. The decrease nationally in top grades highlights the scale of the achievement of local students, with the proportion getting at least one A* or A grade rising again to nearly half. The very best of luck to all students on their next steps, be they into further study or employment."
