Mayor’s Message During Gas Company Road Closure: Support High Street Traders
With gas main replacement works by Cadent Gas causing the closure of Bedford High Street to traffic through the week until Friday 21st July, Mayor Dave Hodgson has issued a statement reminding people that the High Street is open to pedestrians and very much open for business.
The gas main replacement works by Cadent involve the full closure of the High Street from Monday 17th July through to Friday 21st. Single lane closures will follow during further works between July 31st and August 18th. With the High Street open to pedestrians throughout the closures, Mayor Dave Hodgson is issuing a rallying cry for people to visit and use its wide range of high quality traders.
Commenting, Mayor Dave Hodgson said: "It's always a tough time for business when maintenance works like these by the gas company cause road closures. But with all town centre car parks open as usual and the High Street open to pedestrians throughout, there is no reason not to visit and use the array of excellent businesses on the High Street during this period."
Commenting on the works themselves, Mayor Dave added: "These are essential gas works carried out by Cadent Gas and sadly road closures are therefore unavoidable. Whilst the gas company has carried out publicity, the Council is also displaying notices at key locations around the town so that everybody is aware when the work is taking place and to minimise disruption."
