Mayor's Rallying Cry in Support of Incinerator Challenge

Next week the Court of Appeal will hear the challenge against the decision to award an environmental permit for the Covanta Incinerator at Rookery South Pit near Stewartby. With the court date just days away on 2nd or 3rd July, the fundraising appeal by local campaign group Bedfordshire Against Covanta Incinerator (BACI) is still over £12,000 short of its £38,000 target.

Mayor Dave Hodgson has taken to social media to thank the group and its volunteers for all their hard work in bringing the case to this stage, and to promote the appeal, commenting on his Facebook page:

"The fight against the plans for the appalling, oversized Covanta incinerator at Rookery South Pit has been going on for many years, and I've been involved along with many others. However, it has now all come down to the appeal by local campaign group Bedfordshire Against Covanta Incinerator against the plant's environmental permit.'

"BACI and its volunteers have worked tirelessly to get to this stage. With just days left until the appeal is due to be heard at the Royal Court of Justice on either 2nd or 3rd July, the last update from BACI is that their fundraising appeal is still over £12,000 short of its target.'
