Mayor's Thanks to Volunteers as Rivercare Event Collects Over 100 Bags of Rubbish

Mayor Dave Hodgson has thanked the 150 volunteers and numerous local groups who joined forces to collect 107 bags of rubbish at Saturday's Bedford Rivercare 2019 event.

Commenting on Facebook, Mayor Dave said: "A huge thank you to everyone who took part in Saturday's Bedford RiverCare 2019 event, which saw a massive 107 bags of rubbish collected from the River Great Ouse and along its banks.'

"Items retrieved included two prams, a shopping trolley, four bicycles and even a motorbike!'

"Over 150 volunteers took part, so a huge thanks to all of them and to all the organisations which were involved including Viking Kayak Club, Star Club Rowing, Bedford Sub Aqua Club, Bedford Scuba Divers, Bedford Sea Cadets, Bedford McDonald's and John Bunyan Boat."

Bedford Rivercare 2019 is one of a large number of volunteer clean-up events taking place in Bedford Borough this spring under the banner of the Great British Spring Clean, which Bedford Borough Council is taking part in in partnership with Keep Britain Tidy.
