Michael Headley Slams MPs Support For ID Cards

21 Oct 2005

Bedford Lib Dem spokesperson, Michael Headley has spoken out after Bedford's MP, Patrick Hall, supported the third reading of the ID Cards bill this week.

Michael Headley said "There is growing opposition to the intrusive ID cards and linked government database keeping personal information on each of us. Many local people will be very upset that our Labour MP is such a supporter of this big brother technology."

"Winston Churchill scrapped ID cards in 1952, now we have Labour MPs wanting to bring them back and this time with a huge database kept on all of us."

"The £6 billion cost would be better spent on more police. That would be much more effective in tackling illegal activities. I urge everyone to lobby the government to stop this before there is no going back. "
