More Good News for Bedford Bus Station!
The regeneration of Bedford Bus Station has received a £670,000 boost.
The Council is investing additional funding to pay for landscape improvements along Thurlow Street as well as a major improvement to the front of the bus station forecourt adjacent to the Greyfriars roundabout. These projects take the total value of the improvements in this part of town up to nearly £9.5million.
The landscaping along Thurlow Street will include new paving, seating and trees along the southern side of the bus station building and forecourt.
The improvements to the front of the bus station forecourt near the Greyfriars roundabout will see the construction of a large covered facility, providing shelter for those waiting to catch a bus.
Lib Dem Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: "The multi-million pound regeneration of the bus station area is well underway and will deliver a series of improvements to this important part of the town centre.
"This additional £670,000 will enable us to include Thurlow Street as part of the Bedford Bus Station works, including more landscaping improvements and also a major upgrade to the facilities for bus users who are picked up and dropped off at the front of the bus station by the Greyfriars roundabout.
"Bedford Bus Station has let our town centre down for far too long and this scheme will deliver a much improved gateway to the town centre."
The additional works will be included in the current scheme and are scheduled to start towards the end of this year.
