More Improvements for Bus Users as Bus Station Departure Hub is Opened
The latest improvement to facilities for local bus users is now in operation, following the opening of the new Departure Hub at Bedford Bus Station on Sunday.
Providing a safe and sheltered area for passengers using bus services 3, 4, 7, 8 and 10, the new Departure Hub is a considerable improvement on the shelter facilities which were previously in place for users of these 'minibus' routes, the buses on which cannot use the bus bays in the bus station itself.
The design of the Departure Hub, and in particular the rounded ends of its roof, reflects the look of the new bus station building itself. Also in common with the main bus station building, the Departure Hub includes screens showing the latest bus information and times in a well-lit and comfortable shelter.
Commenting, Mayor Dave Hodgson said "The Departure Hub represents a real improvement for users of these services, with more space, more shelter and real-time bus running information. The bus station area regeneration is about much more than just the vastly improved bus station building itself, and the new Departure Hub is another example of a comprehensive approach which has also delivered a refurbished multi-storey car park, new toilets, new paving, new shop fronts and more.'
"Together, this wide array of improvements has achieved a transformation for the bus station area, and this is an ongoing process."
