Movember Draws to a Close

As November draws to a close, so does Movember, the month-long charity event in support of men's health, in particular prostate cancer and other cancers that can affect men. If you happen to have seen me over the past week you may have realised that along with many men across the country, I have taken part myself in order to help raise vital funds and awareness for men's health. Clearly I was not in a position to grow a moustache from scratch, but when the Times and Citizen newspaper suggested I submit myself to the mercy of a public vote to choose what style of moustache I should wear in support of the charity, I felt that losing the beard for a while in this way was a small price to pay for such an important cause.

You can see the results of the public poll in this photo. I must say that I'm a little more used to it having had it for a week or so now, but my face is feeling the colder weather we're now experiencing!

The campaign raises vast amounts of money for treatment, research and education, and the simple fact that people all over the world ask friends or work colleagues "what is that in aid of?" helps in the important task of raising awareness about the health risks that men face.

While November is drawing to a close, you can still support the Movember cause. You can donate via my 'Mospace' page at www.mobro.co/mayordave

A large number of council officers have taken part in the Council's official Movember team, 'Mo Ford'. The team registered at www.uk.movember.com with clean-shaven faces and since then, they have been concentrating on growing various styles of facial hair throughout the month. To support those taking part, you can visit http://uk.movember.com/donate/team-details/id/369558/searchTerm/mo+ford . I'm delighted to say that the team as a whole has raised over £1,000 at the time of writing.

If you'd like to find out more about the type of work you'd be helping to fund by supporting Movember, then take a look at the 'Programmes We Fund' section on the Movember website; http://uk.movember.com/about.
