To enable the Council to prioritise staff on essential duties at this extraordinary time, all of the Council's multi-storey car parks apart from Queens Street will be closed, until further notice.

With updated Government guidance around staying at home and increased pressure on Council services, the decision has now been made to completely close Lurke Street, River Street and Allhallows car parks until further notice.

Queen Street multi-storey car park will remain open 24/7.

Alternative parking is available with over 1,000 spaces at surface car parks including Riverside Car Park, St Mary's, St Peter's, Duckmill Lane, Ashburnham Road, Prebend Street and Melbourne Street, and on-street parking will be available as always.

Councillor Charles Royden, Portfolio Holder for Transport said "The Government has made it very clear that people should stay at home as much as possible and there is now very little use being made of our car parks. With increased pressure on council staff and resources this decision ensures that our reduced workforce can keep people safe. There continues to be ample space in other car parks including Queen Street multi-storey and all of our surface car parks for key workers who commute, need to park in town for work or anyone getting their essential shopping."
