Throughout this week, the Royal Horticultural Society and others have been promoting National Gardening Week and the many health and environmental benefits of looking after and enjoying gardens. You can find out more about National Gardening Week and this year's theme - which is to encourage people to 'Get Your Dose of Vitamin G' - on the RHS website here: https://www.rhs.org.uk/get-involved/national-gardening-week/

If you feel inspired to enjoy gardening, why not give home composting a go? Did you know that Bedford Borough Council offer compost bins at subsidised prices? You can find out more here at https://www.bedford.gov.uk/rubbish-recycling-and-waste/household-bins-and-recycling/reduce-reuse-and-recycle/ for more information.

Recycle now has lots of information about getting started and how to make the most of your compost bin - see https://www.recyclenow.com/reduce-waste/composting

Across the UK, households waste 6.5 million tonnes of food every year, and by composting your food and garden waste you can do your bit to help our environment, and produce a high quality, rich compost to help your garden in future.

For green waste you're not able to compost, here in Bedford Borough you can use the the free fortnightly green bin collections, which recommenced after the winter break at the beginning of March. To check your collection days, see www.Bedford.gov.uk/bins
