National Recognition for the Jobs Hub
With the Bedford Borough Jobs Hub nearing its first birthday, this pioneering partnership project has received a welcome boost with the award of a national accolade for the innovative approach we are pursuing to support local residents into employment, training and enterprise.
The Jobs Hub won the 'Delivering Better Outcomes' category at the Municipal Journal Awards 2013, beating nationwide competition after impressing the judging panel with its clear strategy, commitment to providing a first-class service and formidable record of delivering real customer outcomes. Since opening in July 2012, the Jobs Hub has seen a footfall of over 7000 customers and worked with a significant number of residents - into work, training and self-employment.
The Jobs Hub opened in July 2012, and represents a unique partnership approach to making a real difference on behalf of residents locally. The service is funded by the Bedford Borough Partnership Board, Jobcentre Plus and Bedford Borough Council and provides a range of support and advice services for people of all ages looking for personal or professional development. Since opening on Greyfriars in Bedford Town Centre, it has seen a footfall of a remarkable 7,000 customers.
As you can see from this photo, I popped along to the Jobs Hub to congratulate the staff on site on the well-deserved award. I also want to stress that congratulations are also due to all of the partner organisations and businesses who have engaged with the Jobs Hub and are contributing to its efforts to provide valuable support locally.
These efforts include job matching, workshops and tailored careers advice. The Jobs Hub has worked with a number of the major new employers in Bedford Borough in recent months such as Premier Inn, Brewers Fayre and Morrisons on recruitment days and interviews, for example, giving local people the chance to access the employment opportunities they present.
