Network Rail Bromham Road Bridge Closure Starts Monday

Network Rail's Bromham Road Bridge closures starts on Monday 24th June and will run until Spring 2020.

This is to allow them to safely demolish and raise the bridge as part of their Midland Main Line upgrade. A diversion via the A6 and Clapham Road will be clearly signposted.

This full closure follows earlier partial and overnight closures to allow for preparation ahead of this demolition.

Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the closure, with a temporary footbridge in place when required.

A Borough Council spokesperson said, "Bromham Road Bridge is a busy route in and out of Bedford. We would encourage road users to find alternative routes where possible and allow more time for your journey.

"We have worked with Network Rail to minimise disruption, including delaying our Transporting Bedford 2020 works on Clapham Road so that there aren't road closures on this main thoroughfare at the same time.

"The works on Manton Lane are not directly on the diversion route, but we appreciate could have an impact so we have worked to keep the road moving, with no temporary traffic lights in use on the road until after 9.30am and removed by 3pm during the school term so they do not impact during peak time.

"Thanks to technology already installed through the Transporting Bedford 2020 project, we are able to monitor journey times on key routes. We will keep a close eye on this, especially in the early days of Network Rail's closure and if necessary look at options to help further alleviate traffic pressure."
