New Campaign Urges Used Car Buyers to 'Check It Not Regret It'

30 Oct 2013

Bedford Borough Council, the Trading Standards Institute and the Citizens Advice Bureau are steering people in Bedford in the right direction, this November, when it comes to buying a used car.

The drive is part of a month-long campaign, launching on 4 November, at the start of National Consumer Week.

The campaign is urging people buying a used car to 'check it don't regret it' by assessing whether it is safe, legal and what it seems.

Together they are raising awareness of the pitfalls of buying a car without first carrying out some vital necessary checks.

The Borough Council's Environmental Health & Trading Standards team and Bedford Citizens Advice Bureau advisors will be available to speak to in person on Wednesday 6th November at the Harpur Centre where they will be handing out essential tips on buying a used car.

Lib Dem Cllr Sarah Jayne-Holland, Portfolio Holder for Community and Regulatory Services said: "A second-hand car that is not up to scratch and is littered with faults can be a danger to the driver and other road users.

"It's important the used car industry puts the brakes on bad practices by dealers being up front with their customers about the condition of cars. That way people can make an informed choice as to whether it is the car for them."
