New Fountain at Bedford Park Lake
Bedford Park lake received a new fountain last week, just in time for the onset of spring. The new fountain, which aerates the water of the lake, provides an aesthetic cascade in the Victorian grounds of Bedford Park, which opened on 11th July 1888. Initial attempts to fix the broken fountain pump revealed the entire structure needed replacing, at a cost of £4000.
The Grade II listed park, which was created in the 19th Century, is one of three parks in Bedford Borough which holds the Green Flag status; reflecting their beauty and the care taken by Bedford Borough Council in maintaining them.
The installation of the new fountain is the latest of a series of enhancements to this beautiful Bedford attraction. These include the Council's successful move to bring the café building back into regular use, with the Pavilion at the Park offering high quality food and drink in the newly-refurbished café building since November 2014.
Lib Dem Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said "Bedford Park is a beautiful place to visit, and the installation of a new fountain in time for spring is more good news following a string of enhancements to the park in recent years."
