Bedford Borough Council's Church Lane Neighbourhood Centre regeneration scheme has been given a further boost after successful negotiations with a GP practice have resulted in the prospect of a brand new surgery joining the site.

The surgery will join existing features already delivered for the regenerated site, which has seen a tired, unloved former shopping parade transformed by improvements including:

  • New 17,000ft Aldi Store, opened in 2010
  • New 107 space car park supporting local shops
  • Provision of a multi purpose games court
  • Environmental and Landscaping Improvements

Lib Dem Deputy Mayor, Charles Royden, said: "Local residents remember all too well what it used to be like at Church Lane Neighbourhood Centre, and it's fantastic that in the face of the economic crisis, the site has been transformed with a range of improvements including the brand new supermarket. The news that the development is set to benefit from further improvements including a new doctor's surgery for the community is more great news for residents."
