New Recycling – The Early Verdict
The Council has introduced a new recycling system, which came into operation last month. However, it has had some teething problems and doesn't apply everywhere.
Fact File
- The new scheme has been introduced in some areas and means that residents can put out their orange sack of recyclables one week and their garden waste in a sack or special bin the alternate week.
- In all the other areas the old orange bag scheme has continued every week, but now you are asked to leave it NEXT to your bin NOT in it. It is still being collected in the same lorry as before though, and being seperated out at Elstow Materials Recovery Facility.
- New areas will be phased in on the new scheme every year.

Liberal Democrats are keen to see increased recycling and composting. This will stop the waste and pollution caused by dumping our rubbish in landfill sites.
However, Liberal Demorats think that there are improvements that can be made to the scheme. These are:
- The collection of recyclables should stay every week and people should have the option of a different bin instead of orange sacks.
- People should be offered compost bins to allow people to produce their own compost at home if they want, saving the costs of it being transported.
- New areas should be phased in quickly not over several years as is now planned.
