Newly Refurbished Church Arcade
I was delighted to help formally mark the completion of the renovated Church Arcade in the town centre yesterday. The £350,000 project, which saw the Council working with the arcade's owner Metropolitan and County Group to in the design of the scheme, has really brightened up the arcade and made it a light, attractive place to shop. In a nice touch, the new canopy over the arcade entrance from Harpur Street has the names of a number of Bedford Sporting icons.
I attended the opening with Cllr Michael Headley, the Finance and Assets Portfolio Holder, and we were both impressed with the results of the renovation work. There are some great local businesses in the arcade, and I really enjoyed taking some time to chat with them and talk about how they're finding things at the moment. As you can see from the photo on the right, one of the businesses we popped into was the popular Platters, where you can get a very nice cappuccino!
