Nick Clegg to hold town hall meeting in Bedford Borough
Liberal Democrat Leader Nick Clegg is inviting the people of Bedford Borough to tell him what they think about fixing the economy and rebuilding trust in politics.
In the middle of Bedford Borough's Mayoral by-election Nick Clegg is bringing his series of 'Nick Clegg meets…' town hall meetings to the Borough on 6 October. Nick Clegg will discuss with local people the issues that matter most to them.
Chaired by Dave Hodgson, the Liberal Democrat Borough group leader and candidate for Mayor, the meeting is open to everyone to attend to ask any question to Nick Clegg they would like. The meeting will be held at the Harpur Suite in Bedford town centre at 6.30pm.
Upon becoming Leader in December 2007, Nick Clegg spoke of creating a new type of politics: open, accessible, and helpful in people's everyday lives. This direct conversation with people is part of that people's politics - no spin, no hand-picked audiences, and no planted questions.
Nick Clegg said:
"At a particularly crucial time for Bedford, I am looking forward to having a discussion with local people about problems they are facing and how, together, we can solve them.
"Since becoming leader of the Liberal Democrats I have travelled up and down the country listening to the concerns of thousands of people and families.
"It is now more important than ever for politicians to get out of Westminster and engage with people about how to rebuild our economy and restore trust in politics."
Commenting further, Dave Hodgson said:
"In Bedford Borough people know that at a local level it is the Liberal Democrats who are most committed to genuinely listening to residents.
"I know that Nick will be interested to learn about the problems faced by people such as the recession, transport and education and that the Borough residents will relish the opportunity to discuss the issues they care most about with Nick."
