Mayor Dave Hodgson at Wixams Retirement Village Ribbon Cutting

Mayor Dave Hodgson helped to mark the official opening of Wixams Retirement Village this week, as the 230-apartment extra care development for over-55s formally was formally launched.

Mayor Dave helped cut the ribbon at the ceremony, and spoke to residents about their new homes and the wide range of facilities available in the development, which is a partnership project between Bedford Borough Council, the Harpur Trust, Homes England and The ExtraCare Charitable Trust.

Writing on his Facebook page, Mayor Dave commented:

It was my pleasure to help mark the official opening of the very impressive Wixams Retirement Village this week.

There are an incredible range of facilities for residents on site, with a village hall, hairdressers, bar, gym, full-size snooker table, shop and much more.

Plus the only double-glazed greenhouse I've seen in Bedford Borough!

We've all seen it taking shape on the northern edge of Wixams, so it was great to see it completed and to talk to residents about how they are enjoying their new homes.
