Pets should not be given as prizes. The Liberal Democrat Group was distressed to learn that whilst many activities are explicitly ruled out by Council Terms and Conditions when planning an event on Council Land, giving live animals as prizes is not. The Terms and Conditions of the Council’s Event Planning pack regulate many other things, but do not prohibit pets as prizes: Parkseventsguidance.pdf (bbcdevwebfiles.blob.core.windows.net)

Liberal Democrat Councillor David Sawyer presented a Motion at Full Council, saying that

‘if we can regulate ‘performing animals’, the lighting of fires and the playing of music, and refuse promotion of tobacco products on Council land, surely we can ensure that live animals are not given as prizes in Bedford Borough. This practice which has no place here, and we must tighten up the regulations to ensure it doesn’t happen’.

The Motion was supported by all Councillors.
