Public inquiry over 7/7 attacks needed - Clegg

12 May 2006

Responding to the Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC) report into the 7th July terrorist attacks, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, Nick Clegg MP said:

"The Intelligence and Security Committee sheds welcome light on the organisation and resources of our security services in dealing with the new terrorist threat.

"Legitimate questions, such as the security threat warnings issued by the security services have been properly raised. However, the ISC limited remit cannot answer some of the outstanding questions concerning the motivation and behaviour of home-grown terrorists in British towns and cities.

"A public inquiry, which can enhance public understanding of the nature of the new terrorist threat in Britain and assist in targeting intelligence recourses in our own communities, is still required."
