Reform the breaking political system - Vann

9 Aug 2009

On July 22, Nick Clegg, Liberal Democrat leader set out his vision for the UK including political reform to ensure that politicians are held to account by everyone.

Henry Vann, local campaigner for the Liberal Democrats in Bedford and Kempston, will back reform of the political system to clean up politics.

Speaking to local party members, Henry said: "I personally would not claim a second home and would instead commute, as thousands of others do every day.

"But our political system needs deeper reform. We must also get big money out of politics, all donors should be transparently tax-resident in the UK, and people should not feel forced to support Labour through their membership of a particular trade union.

"We must also reduce the number of MPs to a sensible level, and the Liberal Democrats were the first to propose this.

"Finally, the House of Lords must be accountable, and people's votes should count equally, as in a system of proportional representation."
