Refurbished Allhallows Car Park to Re-Open Tomorrow!

16 Apr 2014

Allhallows multi-storey car park will re-open to the public on Thursday morning as the regeneration of the new Bedford Bus Station continues.

The car park was temporarily closed in March to allow new customer lifts to be installed as well as improvements to the vehicle entrance and exit ramps on Brace Street.

These works have been completed under budget and on time, meaning the car park will re-open to the public as planned on Thursday.

The refurbishment of the car park started last year and includes brand new public toilets and major improvements to all of the parking levels. The exterior cladding is also nearly completed, improving the exterior appearance of the car park.

Lib Dem Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: "The re-opening of the Allhallows car park is another important step forward in building the new Bedford Bus Station.

"The car park has brand new customer lifts, brand new public toilets as well as major improvements to the parking levels and exterior. There is still more work to be done but re-opening to the public is an important step forward.

"Bedford Bus Station has let our town centre down for far too long and we are pleased that progress is continuing so swiftly to create the new Bedford Bus Station."

When the car park re-opens it will be operating a pay on foot system. Drivers will collect a ticket from the entry barrier and when they wish to leave they will insert the ticket into a payment machine, pay the required amount and then insert that ticket at the exit barrier when leaving.

The pay on foot system is already used at River Street and Queen Street multi-storey car parks.

Further improvements will continue at Allhallows until the summer.
