Bedford Borough Council have announced that they are able to relaunch their Community Champion and Park Champion schemes once more, as lockdown restrictions are gradually being eased. However, they are approaching with cautious optimism in order to keep volunteers and staff as safe as possible.

This means adopting a phased approach to reintroducing community volunteering. Community Champions can now return to litter picking and championing their local area on an individual basis, and parks Friends groups can volunteer in socially-distanced groups of six (the current maximum number of people allowed to meet outdoors).

Bedford Borough Council have drawn up a risk assessment that covers all aspects of community volunteering, from litter picking to carrying out park tasks. If you begin to volunteer again, you must adhere to the safety measures relevant to the task you are partaking in, as detailed in this document for your own and others safety. A copy of the risk assessment can be requested from volunteering@bedford.gov.uk.
