Next Saturday (30th March) sees Rivercare Clean Up return to Bedford Embankment.

Rivercare Clean Up is a fantastic community event which sees the Embankment and river given a complete clean with the help of volunteers and local groups, with last year's event seeing over 200 people get involved.

The Council is looking for volunteers who like to take part and help clear and litter-pick along the Embankment and riverside. Scuba divers and kayakers will be in the water clearing the river and the banks, with previous years seeing bicycles, shopping trolleys and traffic cones pulled out of the water.

All equipment will be provided with volunteers just asked to wear suitable clothing and sturdy footwear. Refreshments for volunteers will also be available at the Star Rowing Club.

Mayor Dave Hodgson said "The Rivercare Clean Up is a real community event, with people coming together to make our beautiful riverside look its best ahead of the summer. Our volunteers really do amazing things, from assisting with exhibitions at The Higgins Bedford, to activities in our country parks, and of course the rivercare clean up. If you've been thinking about volunteering, this is a great way to get involved."

The event runs from 10am till noon and volunteers are asked to meet at the Star Rowing Club on the Embankment, near Riverside Square. For more information please email volunteering@bedford.gov.uk
