Resurfacing of a key route in Bedford is to commence this month after Bedford Borough Council and contractors worked successfully to reduce road closure requirements and to meet government coronavirus working guidelines.

Church Lane in Goldington, Bedford not only features a busy shopping hub and other facilities but is also a vital route on the Bedford road network. Liberal Democrat Ward Councillors had pressed for essential resurfacing to take place on a stretch of the road including the Queens Drive junction plus part of Queens Drive near the junction, but there had been concerns that the current situation would prevent the important scheme from taking place.

However, the works are now set to start on April 27th after Bedford Borough Council's highways engineering team worked successfully with the contractor to find a solution. They have identified a programme that does not involve a 24 hour road closure and will comply with government guidelines on essential road maintenance projects and safe working.

Liberal Democrat Goldington Ward Councillors Christine McHugh and Tim Caswell said: "This is excellent news for local residents and all road users. Church Lane is a key route and it is vital that it is in a good, safe condition.'

"That's why we've requested these works and we're delighted that they are able to go ahead, with contractors able to work safely and get this important work done."

The works will start on Monday 27th April and are programmed to take fourteen working days, with a road closure in place from 8am to 6pm.
