Saying Thank You and Raising Awareness on Carers Rights Day
Today, 26th November is Carers Rights Day, and Liberal Democrat Cllr and Bedford Borough Council Adult Services Portfolio Holder Cllr Wendy Rider has paid tribute to all unpaid carers across Bedford Borough, and stressed how important it is that they are aware of their rights and the advice and support available locally.
Commenting, Cllr Rider said: "On National Carers Rights Day, a huge thank you to the many, many unpaid carers across Bedford Borough. Carers are on the front line in our community, keeping our Borough going - more so than ever this year when events have put more pressure on carers than ever before.'
"It is crucial that carers are aware of their rights and aware of the advice and support that is available. Your first point of contact as an unpaid carer is Carers in Bedfordshire, and meanwhile anyone who provides or intends to provide a substantial amount of care on a regular basis is entitled to a carer's assessment.'
"Thank you once again to all of the unpaid carers across Bedford Borough for all that you do, today and every day."

Meanwhile, the Liberal Democrats have today launched their national Stand Up for Carers Campaign, which has started with a call to raise Carer's Allowance for unpaid carers by £1,000 per year. You can find out more, and add your name in support of the campaign, at www.libdems.org.uk/carers.
