Shuttle Return Just the Ticket Say Lib Dems
Following a long running campaign by local Liberal Democrats the boroughs shuttle service between the Town Centre and Aspects is to be reintroduced including an extra stop at the Towns Midland Road rail station.
Despite strong opposition from Liberal Democrats on the council, including the presentation of a 250 strong petition, the service was axed last April. Further attempts to resurrect the service last April fell on death ears. However following discussions between the councils and Thameslink the service is to be brought back.
Speaking on the successful reintroduction, Lib Dem Group Leader Michael Headley said:
"This is terrific news. We have been campaigning since January for this service to be maintained. It's vital that we provide a joined up transport plan to get people across the borough safely, quickly and cheaply. I said at the time I thought it was a terrible mistake to lose this service and it seems that other s have finally come round to my thinking."
"It's a shame that it has taken this long but with the edge of town Park and Rides still to open and proposed service cuts by Stagecoach this should provide a welcome relief for Town Centre roads. It's also pleasing to see they have taken on board our calls for extra promotion of the service and to provide a link with the rail station. Now commuters will be offered an alternative to the busy railway car park."
"A lot of people were very concerned about the loss of this service, however, even more hadn't realised it existed. With increased promotion of the service promised we should be able to persuade them of the benefits of using the shuttle. More shoppers and less cars in the town centre should be good news all round."
