ID Cards - Expensive, Intrusive, Ineffective
Scrapping ID Cards could pay for 10,000 more police officers

Henry Vann, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Campaigner for Bedford and Kempston, has called on the government to scrap its ID Card scheme following a Home Office survey showing support for the scheme drifting away.

Public support has declined following a series of damaging government data loss scandals.

Henry Vann said: "I will continue to fight against this unpopular, costly, and illiberal scheme."

"This could cost more than £10 billion, which during a recession is a deeply irresponsible use of public money. This money could be sensibly directed towards putting more police on our streets.

"We have now opened a national petition at www.libdems.org.uk/noidcards to call for the scheme to be scrapped, and I urge the people of Bedford to vote for police not plastic.

"The Liberal Democrats are the only party with policies that will reduce crime. We will put 10,000 more police on our streets by getting rid of an ineffective, expensive, and increasingly unpopular ID card scheme."
