Speed Cameras for Stewartby!
Local Liberal Democrat Councillor Tim Hill has been campaigning for several years against the "boy racers" and "speed merchants" who have treated Stewartby as a race track, especially during the summer months.
Tim is very pleased to report that following his request, Mayor Dave Hodgson has included Stewartby in the programme of installing average speed cameras across the Borough in 2014/15.
Three average speed cameras will be installed along Stewartby Way during this summer.
These cameras will record a vehicle's average speed. If your average speed is above the speed limit, you will be fined.
The type of cameras we are getting are similar to those that have had such a dramatic effect on the average speed of vehicles going through Milton Ernest. There used to be hundreds and hundreds of offenders every year. There are now very low double figures of offenders every year. The average speed has dropped from nearly 40mph to less than 30mph.
With financial contributions from Tim's Ward Fund and from Stewartby Parish Council, the Borough Council under Mayor Dave Hodgson's leadership will soon be making Stewartby a safer place to live for all its residents.
