St Mary's Street is Fully Re-opened
It is with a mixture of joy and relief that I can report that, as of last night, St Mary's Street is fully reopened ahead of schedule, following the urgent repair works. The works started on 3rd October after a ground radar survey found the road was in serious danger of collapse due to a complete lack of drainage on one side of the road, which was only resurfaced four years ago by the former County Council.
In order to repair the road and install effective drainage systems, the road had to be completely rebuilt with traffic restrictions in place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For the first few weeks, that meant no northbound traffic going over the bridge at all and just one southbound lane open, and I want to once again thank residents, businesses and all road users for their patience while the works have been going on.
A final Sunday closure, lasting between 7am and 9pm, will take place this Sunday (November 27th) to allow the last remaining works to take place.
I want to congratulate everybody involved for completing this major project ahead of schedule, and leaving us with a high quality, safe new road that is built to last.
