Stop the Conservatives' Protest Crackdown Law
This week the Conservatives forced their Protest Crackdown Law through the House of Commons. The Bill would undermine our rights to freedom of assembly and protest.
The Liberal Democrats will continue to oppose this dangerous crackdown on protests
Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesperson, Alistair Carmichael, called the protest laws "dangerous and draconian" and added: "They undermine the proud British tradition of standing up for what we believe in and respecting others' rights to do the same."
"This new law would allow the police to clampdown on protests for being too noisy, and create 10-year prison sentences just for causing someone 'serious annoyance'."
Protest has always been a crucial part of our democratic society in Britain. The right to peaceful assembly and protest is a fundamental human right.
The Conservatives' Protest Crackdown Law would undermine that right. It is part of the Conservative Government's anti-democratic attempts to silence any opposition to its policies. The Liberal Democrats will fiercely resist it, and you can add your name to the campaign at https://change.libdems.org.uk/protest
