Supporting Enforcement of Renhold Lorry Restrictions and Speed Limits

Yesterday morning I was out in the early morning sunshine in Renhold to support a joint enforcement operation between the Council and the police. Renhold has suffered from excessive numbers of Heavy Goods Vehicles running through the village, and we were there to monitor compliance with the 7.5 tonne weight limit and timed restrictions which are in place.
The police were also carrying out enforcement against speeding with their hand held speed checking devices. Speeding is sadly prevalent on local roads across the Borough, and is the issue raised with me most commonly in both urban and rural areas. If we are going to ensure enforcement takes place to the degree which is required, it will require effective partnership working between the police, who are responsible for speeding enforcement, and the Council, which is of course the Highways authority and which will soon be introducing average speed cameras to target problem locations and improve safety for all road users.
