Supporting People

25 Apr 2023
Mayor Dave Hodgson at St Mary's Warm Space

Despite challenges from extreme government cuts and record levels of inflation, we will always provide quality support for people who need it most and protect frontline services. Below are just some of the things we have achieved and our plan for the future working with the Council, local businesses and residents.

Our record

  • The Council supports 2,600 vulnerable people every day
  • Reduced homelessness and rough sleeping to single figures
  • Improved Ofsted rating to "Good"
  • No Children's Centres or libraries closed
  • Supported residents through the pandemic and the cost of living crisis

Our plan

  • Continue to offer a 100% Council Tax Reduction Scheme
  • Keep Council Tax down - one of the lowest rises in the country this year
  • Continue to drive down £90 million of debt left by Conservative County Council
  • Protect frontline services in the face of Conservative government cuts
  • Stand up for Bedford Borough and campaign for a fair deal from government

We have a proven track record to show that we can manage your Council's budget in a responsible and sensible manner while supporting the most vulnerable and protecting frontline services.
