Local Lib Dem Cllr Tim Hill has been working with representatives of the Sir Malcolm Stewart Trust and Borough Council officers to tackle the issue of replacing rotting window frames on the Sir Malcolm Stewart Homes estate.

This estate began when Sir Malcolm Stewart set up a Trust to provide homes for retired brick workers in the hope that their "declining years might be made more comfortable if they were relieved of some of the expense of maintaining a household." The estate continued to flourish after his death in 1951 and has now expanded to 86 homes, with the final few completed in 1978.

Unfortunately, the Trust does not currently have the money for this estate-wide replacement of rotting window frames, but Tim is pleased to report a major step forward with the Trusts' appointment of a fundraising consultant. Their role will be to try and find the necessary grants to fund this work and help to bring a large reduction to residents' fuel bills.

Tim said "I am very pleased that this appointment has been made and, while this may be a long process, I am delighted that work can begin on trying to find the necessary funding. This project, when complete, will save both energy and money and make life a bit easier for residents in these difficult economic times."
