Tea in the Park

The future of one of the boroughs most treasured buildings was discussed at last nights meeting of the Community and Culture Policy review and Development Committee.

As an item of late business the committee was asked to discuss a proposal to release £25,000 to renovate and reopen parts of Bedford Park Café. Lib Dems on the council are calling for the money to be spent as quickly as possible so that work can begin on the café, which last opened in 1990.

Speaking after the meeting Cllr Jennifer Heseltine, Lib Dem Community and Culture Spokesperson, said:

"This is a great opportunity for Bedford Park and the people who use it. It's been a terrible shame that the building has been closed for so long. This money must now be spent in creating a café that is accessible and that warrants its special location."

She added:

"I would like to see it brought on as the hub of the Park, promoting use of the park and other open spaces in the borough. Information should be available for sports, wildlife and leisure pursuits with the park rangers on hand to ensure people really enjoy their visit. Bedford Park is one of the jewels in the boroughs crown. This is a lovely building, with this renovation it can become one of the parks greatest assets"
