Teachers pay increases welcome, but the government must be the ones to pay.

Teachers have had a real-terms pay cut for years so lifting the pay cap for some teachers after pressure from the Liberal Democrats is good news. But, not all teachers will receive a real terms pay rise.

Councillor Henry Vann, Bedford Borough Liberal Democrats Education spokesperson said "Even more worrying, there is no extra funding from the Treasury for this. Where is the money coming from? It can only be by putting new pressures on our already hard pressed schools and stealth cuts to other education programs and support. Whilst in Bedford Borough local Liberal Democrats are doing everything we can to support the teaching profession and our school leaders and Governors, this Government is doing everything it can to undermine this important work. The Government must, must fund education properly."
