The Crucial Message of Road Safety Week
Last week's Road Safety Week had a theme of 'Step Up for Safe Streets', which is all about enabling us all to get around in safe and healthy ways, every day.
That was a clear message of a recent Children's Overview and Scrutiny Committee meeting, where councillors heard from children from Wootton who have been campaigning on the issue of road safety in their community. Bedford Borough Liberal Democrat Children's OSC spokesperson and Committee Chair Cllr Hilde Hendrickx issued a call for motorists to help children stay safe around schools, and you can read more of her comments and the action the Council is taking on road safety here.
The Road Victims Trust held a Remembrance Service for those killed in road collisions at St Paul's Church earlier this month, and Liberal Democrat Councillor for Elstow, Stewartby and Kempston Hardwick Tim Hill attended in his capacity as Speaker of the Council.
Cllr Hill said after the ceremony: "It was very moving to hear the story of the young Mum who had been greatly helped by the Trust. She had been counselled following the death of her 35 years old husband in a road accident.
"The Trust does wonderful work for those torn apart by an unexpected tragic death."
