Following the announcements made by the government on 20 March to the tackle the spread of the coronavirus, The Higgins Bedford and all Bedford Borough Council libraries will close with immediate effect with the exception of a reduced service at Bedford Central Library.

On Saturday 21 March and Sunday 22 March, Bedford Central Library will be open from 12 midday -2pm for the use of public computers by library users only .

Other library services will not be available.

To help Library customers over coming weeks we have extended the due dates on items on loan and have paused charges on any items that are already overdue.

There are a wide range of online services and resources available through the Virtual Library, including e-books, audio books and e-magazines. Anyone can join, you don't have to be an existing library member.

The health, welfare and safety of our staff, volunteers and visitors remains our top priority. We will provide further updates as soon as possible.
