I am delighted that the latest project from Castle Quay Weekender organisers We Are Bedford, the first Bedford Busking Festival, will be going ahead after they hit their target of raising £500. The busking festival is a great idea, and the Council has supported the We Are Bedford team of 'Bedford Mums' Kayte Judge and Erica Roffe by working with them to produce a jointly-authored Bedford Buskers Code, which will help ensure that busking is of a good quality and does not cause a nuisance to any residents, visitors or businesses in town. We have also identified five pitches in the town centre which we feel are most suitable for performances and for local businesses. The event is taking place on 23rd and 24th July, and is part of the wider Bedfringe Festival, which will see a whole host of exciting arts offerings in Bedford between 15th and 30th July. I must stress that while the minimum target of £500 has been met for the busking festival to go ahead, any extra funds will be used to to expand the event accordingly and, I imagine, will be gratefully received! So, if you like the sound of the event and would like to support it, you can still do so for another four days via the 'crowd-funding' website WeDidThis here: http://wedidthis.org.uk/projects/fund-bedfords-busking-festival
