Town Centre Regeneration Plans - Have a Look and Have Your Say!

Dave Hodgson discussing Town Centre Plans with Local residents
I clearly enjoyed discussing town centre development ideas with local residents at the exhibition today!

I was at the Harpur Suite this morning to open the Town Centre Exhibition, which is open until 7pm this evening and then again from 9am to 4pm tomorrow. The purpose of the exhibition is to display the latest plans and ideas for the development of the Town Centre, and to gather residents' views on what they want to see, and how they would like town centre development to take shape.

In particular I want to listen to residents' views on the latest key schemes involving the Bus Station area, the Railway Station Quarter as well as developing exciting plans for new sites such as Riverside North (Town Hall Complex and Riverside Square) and the High Street. Information on all of these schemes are on show at the exhibition, and staff are on hand to answer any questions and to discuss the future of our town centre.

The economic situation has held up development all over the country, but I am not content with simply waiting for something to happen. Instead we are actively seeking to push forward regeneration of the town centre, for example working with the developers of the bus station area to bring that project forward, and working to bring in nearly £1 million of lottery funding to restore the architectural heritage of the High Street.

The Council is also seeking views on the future of transport across the Borough and is consulting on ideas for the Local Transport Plan at the exhibition. So, why not pop along and have your say?
