Victory on Telecare charges!!
Following a widely publicised petition, forcing them to attend a ‘call in’ meeting and extensive campaigning from Liberal Democrat councillors, the Tory administration has paused the implementation of their cruel Telecare charging policy. This would have come before Full Council for a debate on Wednesday 9th October, but has now been dropped from the agenda.
Cllr Henry Vann, Leader of Bedford Borough Liberal Democrats, commented:
It is very welcome that this awful decision has been withdrawn for now. It is vindication of our campaign, backed by hundreds of residents, to get the Mayor to change his mind on this. However, it is clear that this isn’t the end of the story. The Conservatives are clearly looking to come back and have another try at implementing this unjust policy of charging vulnerable people for a vital emergency lifeline.’
