A recent video made by the Council's contractors Breheny has illustrated the impressive progress that had been made by this summer on the crucial project to construct the final phase of the Bedford Western Bypass.

Introducing the video on his Facebook page, Mayor Dave Hodgson wrote:

"This video released last month by the Council's contractors reveals just how far work had progressed by this summer on the crucial final phase of the western bypass.

A complete North-South bypass for Bedford has featured in local and national plans and strategies for fifty years, and it's now a matter of months away. Construction began in October 2014, after we broke the deadlock by winning external funding for the project and by pursuing a Compulsory Purchase Order successfully.

Once complete the bypass will connect the A421 south of Bedford with the A6 heading to the north, accelerating this route and diverting traffic just passing through from busy roads and junctions in Bedford itself.

Progress in the project continues to go well, and it remains on schedule to open in the first half of next year."
