Waging War on Weeds!
The combination of extremely warm and very wet weather we have experienced this year has of course caused rapid growth of weeds on roads and pavements. Mayor Dave Hodgson has today announced a 'War on Weeds' programme of targeted action by the Council to tackle this extraordinarily rapid growth.
Over the next three weeks the whole of the Borough's highways will be sprayed with environmentally-friendly weed killer spray. In addition, a Council Hit Squad will be sent out manually ripping weeds out of the ground.
Commenting, Mayor Dave said: "We are taking action to crackdown on the weeds that are blighting our roads and pavements. Overgrown vegetation affecting sight lines and safety on the roads is always dealt with as a top priority."
Some weeds are extremely tenacious and can push up through the tarmac surface, causing cracking and expensive road maintenance.
If you would like to report a problem with weeds on the highway, you can contact Bedford Borough Council's Highways Helpdesk on 01234 718003.
