The news that the modular building firm Vision Modular Systems are coming here and creating up to 250 jobs is fantastic for Bedford Borough. VMS had other options for their new location, but we worked with them to show them the benefits of doing business in Bedford Borough and I am delighted that they have confirmed that they will be coming here. VMS have been responsible for a number of major construction projects including the world's tallest modular building in Wolverhampton, and will be creating a range of skilled jobs at their new plant on the Woburn Road Industrial Estate in Kempston.

The news follows a stream of really good news on the investment front, including the confirmation of Waitrose's commitment to open a store shortly at the former Courts building off Goldington Road, while Morrison's have plans to lead a major regeneration scheme on the old Camford Works site on Ampthill Road, which would create up to 670 jobs on a site which has sadly for many years sat lifeless on a key gateway into Bedford. As Mayor I've been determined to make sure that 'Bedford is Open for Business' is more than a slogan and that we bring real investment and real jobs for local people, cutting away the bureaucracy and inertia that can hold things back. The progress we have made is of course great for the Borough, but it is vital that we keep up the momentum.
