Welcoming Watford's Winner!

6 Sep 2002

Christine McHugh, Liberal Democrat Candidate for Mayor of Bedford will welcome Dorothy Thornhill (Watford's Mayor) to Bedford on Monday 9th September. Dorothy Thornhill was elected as the Liberal Democrat Mayor of Watford in May.

Since being elected Dorothy has made tackling neglect a top priority, from dealing with graffiti, abandoned cars and cleaning up and improving the environment. Christine McHugh has invited Dorothy to see the problems in Bedford and find out how the Liberal Democrats plan to deal with them.

Christine McHugh said "I am delighted Dorothy has agreed to visit and I am sure there is a lot we can learn from each other. We're both looking at many of the same issues, with zero tolerance of neglect being a key priority for our work in Bedford."

The programme for the day is as follows:

09.30 Arrive Bedford Bus Station to look at the state of the Bus Station and discuss ideas on how to improve it. Visit All Hallows Car Park to discuss the state of the car parks locally after the Best Value Report gave Bedford's Car Parks a 'One Star'.

10.00 Meet Local Putnoe Councillors Michael Headley and Myrtle Stewardson at Library Walk Shops, Putnoe Street to look at the local shopping Centre and discuss Liberal Democrat plans for improvements.
