Western Bypass Progress Seen From the Skies

24 Feb 2015

The latest impressive aerial photographs taken of the second phase of the Western Bypass show excellent progress is being made on this important infrastructure project for the Borough. Construction began in October 2014 and, when open in 2016, the new road will provide a vital connection between the A421 in the south of Bedford through to the A6 heading north of the town.

The new road linkage provides a key piece of road infrastructure which will assist tackling traffic congestion affecting major routes in the Town. The completed Western Bypass will reduce the volume of traffic travelling through the town centre by redirecting traffic around its peripheries and allowing drivers to access the A421, A6 and A428 quickly and directly.

Visiting the Western Bypass during operational hours reveals the sheer amount of activity underway. The immense scale of the project, which the aerial photographs capture magnificently, and the progress which has been made since its beginning in October 2014 are impressive.

Lib Dem Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson said: "We are delighted the project is progressing so well, which is excellent news for our road network, the local economy and for local quality of life. The completed bypass will reduce congestion in and around Bedford and cut journey times, while making this location even more attractive to investors."
