What a Difference a Dave Makes! The Facts on Council Tax

6 May 2015

With the crucial mayoral election approaching on Thursday 7th May, this is the first of a short series here setting out the facts on a number of key issues and looking at the remarkable record of Mayor Dave Hodgson in getting the best for Bedford Borough.

Despite unprecedented reductions in the council's funding from government and massive financial pressures, this is Mayor Dave Hodgson's record on council tax:

- Bedford Borough Council Tax has been frozen or cut every year for five years.

- Council tax is actually lower now than it was in 2010, in common with just seven other unitary Councils in the entire country.

- By contrast, the Conservative-run former County Council charged local residents the second-highest county council tax in the country.

- Council Tax in Bedford Borough is lower than in Central Bedfordshire, despite the fact that the two authorities had the same inheritance from the former Bedfordshire County Council.
