With the River Festival Fast Approaching, Mayor Dave says 'Get Involved!'
With the Bedford River Festival is just over two weeks away, Mayor Dave Hodgson has encouraged people to look into the opportunities to get involved in this 'genuine community event'. The event takes place on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th July, and a vast array of activities and entertainment will be on offer at what is one of the biggest free family events in the country.
Commenting, Mayor Dave said "One of the reasons why the River Festival is so special is the fact that it is a genuine community event, with countless ways for individuals and groups to get involved. The carnival parade is not just spectacular to look at, but great fun to be a part of, while the same applies to other activities on and off the river. So I would encourage people to have a look at the opportunities to take part, and to get in touch."
An estimated quarter of a million people attended the biennial event when it was last held, in 2014. This year's event will include features helping to marking the 850th anniversary of Bedford Borough's Royal Charter, making it an even more special occasion. It is expected that the anniversary will provide inspiration for some of the participants in the River Festival Carnival Parade on Sunday 17th July, for which applications to take part are invited until Wednesday 4th July. That is also the date by which applications for the ever-popular raft races are invited. To find out more and receive application forms, you can email events@bedford.gov.uk.
