Women's Tour, Bringing the World's Best Cyclists to Bedford Borough- One Week To Go!

1 May 2014

The world's best cyclists will be racing through Bedford next week when the inaugural Friends Life Women's Tour comes to the borough.

The Friends Life Women's Tour is the country's first ever international stage race for women and will see the world's very best cyclists, including four reigning Olympic Champions, racing wheel to wheel through the streets of Bedford on Thursday May 8th.

As well as the racing, a Cycle Market Place will take place on St Paul's Square, providing an excellent opportunity for budding young cyclists, amateur enthusiasts or just curious spectators to find out more about cycling.

Lib Dem Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: "In just over a week's time the world's best female cyclists will be racing through the streets of Bedford Borough.

"The sight of elite cyclists racing along local roads before a sprint finish along The Embankment will provide a stunning, free spectacle of world class sport.

"The buzz created on the day will be enhanced by the community events and activities taking place, with a Cycle Market Place on St Paul's Square and opportunities for young people and cycling enthusiasts to get involved."

The Women's Tour starts on Wednesday 7th May in Oundle, Northamptonshire. Day two starts in Hinckley in Leicestershire and travels south, ending the day in Bedford Borough. The riders are expected to arrive in the north of the borough shortly after 1pm and will finish on The Embankment shortly after 2pm.
